Yokohama Family Day Trip 2026: Kid-Friendly Spots, Transport from Tokyo and Private Car Routes
This Yokohama family day trip guide covers how to get there from Tokyo, opening hours and tickets for the Yokohama English Garden, Anpanman Children's Museum, Motomachi Shopping Street and Harbor View Park, what to know with a stroller, and 3 private car routes from Tokyo.
- The JR Tokaido Line takes about 30 minutes from Tokyo Station to Yokohama, but the 4 spots lie in different directions, so by train you change lines or take a shuttle bus for each one
- Floors 2–3 of the Anpanman museum need a timed web ticket bought in advance, 2,200–2,800 yen for ages 1 and up; last entry 16:00
- Yokohama English Garden from 11/1 to 12/25: adults 1,000 yen, school-age children 500 yen, preschoolers free; closed 12/26–1/8
- Strollers are not allowed inside the museum floors or the garden; both have stroller parking at the entrance
- To skip the transfers with kids, see the private car routes below, with pick-up and drop-off at your Tokyo hotel
How do you get from Tokyo to Yokohama?
From Tokyo Station, the JR Tokaido Line reaches Yokohama Station in about 30 minutes; from Shinagawa, the Keikyu Line takes about 20 minutes. After that the 4 family spots are in different directions, so each leg needs another train or a walk:
| Leg | How to get there |
|---|---|
| Tokyo → Yokohama Sta. | JR Tokaido Line about 30 min |
| Shinagawa → Yokohama Sta. | Keikyu Line about 20 min |
| Yokohama Sta. → English Garden | Free shuttle bus from West Exit (no service on Wednesdays, runs on holidays) |
| Yokohama Sta. → Anpanman museum | About 10 min walk from East Exit |
| Motomachi Shopping Street | Minatomirai Line, Motomachi-Chukagai Sta. 1 min walk from Motomachi Exit |
| Harbor View Park | Motomachi-Chukagai Sta. about 5 min walk |
The English Garden is also about 10 minutes on foot from Hiranumabashi Station (Sotetsu Line); the museum is 3 minutes from Exit 3 of Shin-Takashima Station (Minatomirai Line).
Doing all 4 spots in a day means a shuttle bus from the West Exit, a walk from the East Exit, then the Minatomirai Line to Motomachi, all while pushing a stroller and hunting for lifts. With toddlers or grandparents, you can go straight to the private car routes below and link everything in one car from your Tokyo hotel.
Which family spots should you visit in Yokohama?
The 4 spots below follow the order of Lanytrip's Yokohama family private car tour. Suggested stays are a guide for fitting 4 spots into one day, so stretch or shorten them to suit your kids.
Yokohama English Garden
Suggested stay: about 50 min
The Yokohama English Garden is built around roses, Yokohama's city flower, with several rose gardens in different colour themes, and it suits an easy morning stroll with kids. From 11/3 to 12/25 there is a Christmas display in the garden. Opening hours change with the season:
| Period | Opening hours |
|---|---|
| Mar–Nov | 10:00–18:00 (last entry 17:30) |
| Dec–Feb | 10:00–17:00 (last entry 16:30) |
Closed 2026/12/26–2027/1/8 for path repairs.
Admission changes by season, and preschoolers are free all year. Winter and spring prices:
| Period | Adults | Elementary / junior high |
|---|---|---|
| 11/1–12/25 | 1,000 yen | 500 yen |
| 1/9–2/28 | 500 yen | 250 yen |
| 3/1–3/12 | 800 yen | 400 yen |
| 3/13–3/31 | 1,200 yen | 600 yen |
From 1/9 to 2/28 only part of the garden is open due to works. Tickets allow re-entry on the same day.
Yokohama Anpanman Children's Museum
Suggested stay: about 2 hours
Floors 2 and 3 are the paid museum, with interactive play areas, stage shows and character meet-and-greets; from 11/1 to 12/25 there are Christmas stage shows and craft classes. You need a timed web ticket from the official site: sales open at 10:00, 28 days before your visit, and same-day tickets can be bought online if slots remain, but there are basically no tickets at the counter. The shops and food court on the 1st floor are free to enter, 10:00–18:00.
Prices and hours vary by day: weekdays are cheaper, and weekends and holidays open half an hour earlier. Most days in November and December look like this:
| Day | Floors 2–3 | Ticket (ages 1+) |
|---|---|---|
| Weekdays | 10:00–17:00 | 2,200 yen |
| Weekends, holidays | 9:30–17:00 | 2,400–2,800 yen |
Last entry 16:00; same-day re-entry allowed. Closed 12/31, 1/1 and 1/2. An undated gift ticket is also sold for 3,000 yen.
The tour page also notes that booking a museum entry slot in advance is recommended. When planning a private car day, pick your date first, then buy tickets for the matching slot so you can walk straight in.
Motomachi Shopping Street
Suggested stay: about 50 min
Motomachi is a street lined with small, stylish shops, 1 minute on foot from the Motomachi Exit of Motomachi-Chukagai Station. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays it is car-free from 12:00 to 18:00, which makes it easier with a stroller. From 11/4 to 12/25 the Motomachi Christmas lights are up, so an afternoon visit running into dusk catches them.
Harbor View Park
Suggested stay: about 1 hour
Harbor View Park sits on the Yamate hill with a sweeping view of Yokohama Port and the Yokohama Bay Bridge. Western-style houses such as the British House Yokohama and Yamate 111 stand in the park, along with flower gardens to stroll through. It is a short walk from Motomachi, or about 5 minutes from Motomachi-Chukagai Station. A slope leads up to the lookout, so strollers are fine.
What should you know with a stroller or toddler?
The main thing on this trip is that you cannot push a stroller everywhere. The Anpanman museum asks visitors not to use strollers in the museum floors; there is stroller parking on the 2nd floor (unattended, so keep valuables with you), and no strollers or baby carriers are lent. At the English Garden, stroller parking is outside near the entrance, and there are no toilets inside the garden, so use the ones at the entrance or at the neighbouring Yokohama Kurashikan (closed Wednesdays) first.
Know where to change and feed the baby too: the Anpanman museum has nursing rooms on the 3rd floor and the 1st floor, and kids' chairs in the 1st-floor food area; eating is not allowed in the museum floors, but there are water fountains. Harbor View Park has multipurpose toilets with baby seats and changing tables near the entrance, but no nursing room.
With a private car, Lanytrip can provide 1 booster seat free of charge (ages 3 and up); numbers are limited, so mention it when you book. Let us know about strollers in advance so we can confirm a suitable vehicle; for larger groups with strollers and luggage, the Toyota HiAce is the roomier choice.
Which Yokohama family private car routes can you choose?
All 3 routes include pick-up and drop-off at your hotel in central Tokyo, 10 hours of vehicle use and a Chinese-speaking driver. You book the whole car, never shared, choosing an Alphard or HiAce for your group and luggage. The order can be adjusted around your kids' routine.

Where in Tokyo is best to stay?
If you are taking the train, staying around Tokyo or Shinagawa Station is easiest: the JR Tokaido Line from Tokyo takes about 30 minutes and the Keikyu Line from Shinagawa about 20 minutes to Yokohama Station. The smoothest options are a pre-booked private car with the driver meeting you at your hotel in central Tokyo, or the JR Tokaido Line to Yokohama Station and connections from there. For getting from Narita or Haneda into Tokyo, see Tokyo Airport Transfer 2026.
Summary: what to watch for and how to plan
What to watch for
The Anpanman museum needs a timed web ticket in advance, last entry is 16:00, and it is closed 12/31–1/2. The English Garden is closed 12/26–1/8 and only partly open in January and February. Strollers are not allowed inside the museum floors or the garden, but both have parking at the entrance.
How to plan the day
Garden in the morning, Anpanman around midday, Motomachi and Harbor View Park in the afternoon: the English Garden opens at 10:00, the museum follows, then lunch, Motomachi and a walk up to the park for harbour views. If your little one naps, put the museum first.
Why a private car helps
The 4 spots sit off the West Exit, the East Exit and out in Motomachi, so by train you are changing lines, catching a shuttle bus and looking for lifts with a stroller. A private car leaves from your hotel in central Tokyo, the stroller and nappy bag stay in the car, and tired kids can sleep on the way.
