Narita Airport late-night arrival
Narita Airport

Last updated: 2026-11-04 · About 11 min read

This guide to arriving at Narita late at night covers when the last trains and buses leave, what's left once you've missed them, and how to arrange a pre-booked pick-up.

Quick take
  • The last train into Tokyo from Terminal 1 is the 23:08 Access Express (with a change, reaching Keisei Ueno at 0:15); the last Skyliner is 23:00
  • The last bus is the 23:30 TYO-NRT late-night service, cash or IC card only on board; the Limousine Bus is down to the 23:05 Shinjuku line
  • After landing you still clear immigration, collect bags and walk to the station, so after a 22:00 landing it's easy to miss the last service
  • After 23:30 you're left with a taxi, waiting at the airport for the 5:17 first Keisei train, or a pick-up booked in advance
  • With older parents, kids or lots of luggage, a pre-booked pick-up takes you straight to your hotel, and we lay out 3 transfer options below

What time do trains and buses stop at Narita?

From Narita Terminal 1, the last train is the 23:08 Access Express and the last bus is the 23:30 TYO-NRT late-night service. The N'EX stops even earlier, with its last train at 21:44. After 23:30 every train and bus into the city has finished, and only taxis and pre-booked pick-ups are left.

JR from the November 2026 weekday timetable, Keisei from the timetable revised 2025/12/13, Limousine Bus from searches on 11/1, 11/4 and 11/7.

Buses leave Terminal 3 10 minutes earlier than Terminal 1, and Terminal 2 five minutes earlier; trains from Airport Terminal 2 station leave about 3 minutes after Narita Airport station. Haneda's late-night Limousine Bus runs much later, but Narita's last bus is 23:30, so don't mix up the two airports.

How do you work out whether you'll make it?

What matters isn't your landing time but when you reach the station or bus stop. Immigration queues and baggage waits vary by flight. It's a 5-minute walk from Terminal 1 to Narita Airport station, 5 minutes from Terminal 2 to Airport Terminal 2 station, and 10 minutes from Terminal 3. Using Terminal 1:

Say you land at 22:30 and immigration plus bags take an hour: you reach the station at 23:30, every train has gone, and only the TYO-NRT late-night bus is left. If your flight lands after 22:00, it's best to arrange your first-night transport before you fly.

Which late-night trains are left?

N'EX 54 leaves Terminal 1 at 21:44, reaching Tokyo at 22:37 and Shinjuku at 23:12; the timetable also shows a version that only runs to Tokyo, so check the train if you're going to Shibuya or Shinjuku. The 22:10 JR Rapid to Zushi reaches Tokyo at 23:33, and the 22:57 is the last to Tokyo, arriving at 0:29.

Skyliner 188 leaves at 23:00 and reaches Keisei Ueno at 23:48 with no change. The last Access Express leaves at 23:08; you get off at Keisei Takasago at 23:50 and have 1 minute to catch the 23:51 local, reaching Nippori at 0:11 and Keisei Ueno at 0:15. That's a tight change with luggage, and connecting to the subway or JR afterwards is tight too.

A train on the timetable doesn't mean it reaches Tokyo

The 23:42 JR Narita Line rapid only goes as far as Chiba. The Keisei Main Line trains at 23:29 (weekends 23:30) and 0:09 (weekends 0:10) only go to Sogo-sando, so check the destination as well as the time.

Which late-night buses are left?

TYO-NRT: last bus to Tokyo Station at 23:30

Of the buses to Tokyo Station, TYO-NRT runs latest. The last regular bus leaves Terminal 1 at 22:55 and reaches Tokyo Station Nihonbashi Exit at 0:03, ¥1,500 per adult; the late-night bus leaves Terminal 1 at 23:30 and reaches Tokyo Station at 0:38, ¥3,000 per adult and ¥1,500 per child. Stops are Terminal 3 stop 5, Terminal 2 stop 6 and Terminal 1 stop 7, with the late-night bus leaving Terminal 3 at 23:20 and Terminal 2 at 23:25.

For regular buses you buy a ticket for a set time at the LCB counter in each terminal and get to the stop 5 minutes before departure. For the late-night bus you go straight to the stop and pay on board in cash or with a transit IC card, no credit cards, so have cash or Suica credit ready. The bus can't be reserved, and some buses have no toilet.

Limousine Bus: only the Shinjuku line runs late

Only the Shinjuku line of the Limousine Bus arrives after midnight. It leaves Terminal 1 at 23:05 and reaches Tokyo City Air Terminal at 24:00, Shinjuku Station West Exit at 24:25 and Busta Shinjuku at 24:30, ¥3,600 per adult and ¥1,800 per child, bookable online up to 5 minutes before departure. The other lines finish early: Tokyo Station 20:45, Ikebukuro 20:05, Shibuya 19:50, toward Shinagawa 19:00 and toward Asakusa 18:35. You'll be getting off after midnight, so if your hotel is far from the West Exit, plan that last stretch too.

Missed the last train? How do taxis work?

Narita has flat-rate taxis into Tokyo's 23 wards. No booking needed: tell the driver at the taxi stand you want the flat rate. Stands are at Terminal 1 stand 15, Terminal 2 stands 28 and 31-A, and the Terminal 3 taxi stand. Flat fares for the most common zones:

Zone Areas Via Keiyo Road Via Shuto Expressway Wangan Line
Zone B Koto, Sumida, Odaiba (Minato),
Higashi-Yashio (Shinagawa)
¥28,000 ¥28,000
Zone C Chuo, Chiyoda, Taito,
Bunkyo, Arakawa
¥29,000 ¥31,000
Zone D Shinjuku, Toshima, Nakano, Shibuya,
Meguro, Ota, Minato (except Odaiba),
Shinagawa (except Higashi-Yashio)
¥31,500 ¥32,500

Per car.

The flat fare isn't the total. Expressway tolls are extra and a late-night surcharge applies from 22:00 to 5:00, plus a fee if you use the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line, so ask the driver for an estimate before you set off. The flat rate assumes the expressway; ordinary roads switch it back to the meter. Four people with four big suitcases depends on the vehicle, and a regular taxi may not fit everything.

Can you stay overnight at Narita Airport?

Yes, but not every floor is open 24 hours. At Terminal 1, the 1st floor (international arrivals) and B1 are open 24 hours, with floors 2–5 open 5:00–24:00; at Terminal 2, floors 1, 2 and B1 are open 24 hours and floors 3 and 4 5:00–24:00; at Terminal 3, floors 1 and 2 are open 24 hours. There may be cleaning or maintenance near the overnight areas.

24-hour shops include LAWSON on Terminal 1 B1, 7-Eleven on Terminal 2 B1 and Yoshinoya in the Terminal 2 main building, and LAWSON and Matsuya at Terminal 3. If you want somewhere to lie down, nine hours capsule hotel is on Terminal 2 B1, with 24-hour check-in and 10:00 check-out; it can fill up, so book ahead. Airport Café NODOKA, on the 2nd floor of the Terminal 2 main building (before security), is open 24 hours with hourly rates. From Terminal 3 you can walk the connecting passage or take the free inter-terminal bus to Terminal 2.

When do the first trains leave in the morning?

If you wait at the airport, the earliest option is the 5:17 Keisei train (5:16 on weekends), changing to the Morning Liner to reach Keisei Ueno at 6:35 (6:37 on weekends), ¥1,660 per adult on weekdays and ¥1,510 on weekends. The first Skyliner isn't until 7:23 on weekdays and 7:30 on weekends.

Arriving in the city that early, it's still a long time until check-in, so ask your hotel whether they'll hold your bags. Waiting all night at the airport is hard on older parents and kids, and if you know you'll land late, a pick-up arranged in advance makes it much easier.

How do you arrange a pre-booked pick-up?

The hardest part of a late arrival is that the last trains have gone, there are only one or two buses left and there's a queue for taxis. At Narita, Lanytrip offers one-way transfers to central Tokyo, Yokohama and Mt Fuji. Settle your flight, group size and hotel before you fly, and after landing one car takes you straight to your hotel door. These 3 are the most common setups:

  • Narita Airport → your hotel in central Tokyo (late-night pick-up): Good for Landing after 22:00 with older parents, kids or lots of luggage, and staying away from Shinjuku or Tokyo Station. Vehicles include the Alphard and HiAce. Tell us how many people and bags so everyone and everything fits in one car, even late at night.
  • Narita Airport → Yokohama: Good for spending the first night in Yokohama without another late-night change in Tokyo. Heading to Mt Fuji next? Narita to Mt Fuji can be booked directly too.
  • Your hotel in central Tokyo → Narita Airport (return): Good for more luggage on the way home, or older parents and kids who shouldn't drag bags between trains. Book the arrival pick-up and return drop-off together and both trips are sorted at once.

Where are you staying, and how do you get there late at night?

Landing late, a pre-booked pick-up takes you from the arrivals hall straight to your hotel door wherever you stay, with no last train to race. On public transport, your area decides the latest service you can catch. For Ueno and Nippori, take the 23:00 Skyliner, or the 23:08 Access Express if you miss it; for Tokyo Station and Nihonbashi, the 22:57 JR Rapid, then the 23:30 TYO-NRT late-night bus; for Shinjuku, the 21:44 N'EX, then the 23:05 Limousine Bus. For Asakusa, go to Keisei Ueno first and change; for Shinagawa, the 21:44 N'EX or the 22:10 JR Rapid; the last Limousine Buses to Shibuya and Ikebukuro are 19:50 and 20:05.

Once trains and buses have finished, every area is down to a taxi or a pre-booked pick-up. If you're heading somewhere else early the next morning, you can also stay at nine hours in Terminal 2; just book ahead.

Summary: what to watch for and how to plan a late Narita arrival

Things to watch for

From Narita into the city, the last train is 23:08 and the last bus 23:30, and the N'EX finishes at 21:44. Immigration and baggage times vary by flight, so after a 22:00 landing the last service has often left by the time you reach the station; the TYO-NRT late-night bus doesn't take cards.

How to plan it

Landing before 21:00, take the N'EX, Skyliner or Limousine Bus depending on where you're staying. Landing after 22:00, book your pick-up before you fly and go straight to the hotel; for the return, tell us your hotel departure and flight times and we'll set up the drop-off too.

Why we suggest a pre-booked pick-up

The tiring part of a late arrival is racing for the last train, dragging bags between trains and then walking to the hotel. A pre-booked pick-up settles your flight and hotel in advance, so there's no last train to watch and one car takes you to your hotel door, and older parents and kids can rest as soon as they sit down. See the 3 transfer options above, or message us on LINE.
