Kansai Airport to Osaka 2026: Nankai, HARUKA and Limousine Bus Options, Fares and Last Trains
This guide to getting from Kansai Airport to Osaka covers the easiest way to Namba, Umeda and Kyoto by pre-booked transfer or train, what each option costs, when the last trains and buses leave for late flights, and how to book a transfer with older parents, kids or lots of luggage.
- Staying in Namba or Shinsaibashi? Take Nankai Rapi:t or the Airport Express; HARUKA does not stop at Namba
- For Umeda and Osaka Station, HARUKA takes about 45 minutes and the Limousine Bus about 60, both with no change
- For Kyoto, HARUKA runs direct in about 78 minutes, and every Limousine Bus from Kyoto to the airport must be reserved
- Through immigration after midnight, the only bus to Umeda is the 0:15 Limousine late-night bus from Terminal 1, cashless only
- With older parents, kids, lots of luggage or a late flight, a pre-booked transfer takes you straight to your hotel, and we lay out 3 transfer options below
What are the ways from Kansai Airport to Osaka?
You can go by Nankai, JR, Limousine Bus, taxi or pre-booked transfer, and the answer mostly depends on where you stay. Nankai for Namba, HARUKA or the Limousine Bus for Umeda, and HARUKA or the Limousine Bus Kyoto Line for Kyoto, all with no change.
| Option | Destination | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Nankai Rapi:t | Namba | From 34 min |
| Nankai Airport Express | Namba | About 45 min |
| JR HARUKA | Tennoji, Osaka Shin-Osaka, Kyoto |
Osaka about 45 min Kyoto about 78 min |
| JR Kanku Rapid | Tennoji, Osaka | Osaka about 70 min |
| Limousine Bus | Osaka Station, Namba OCAT Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit |
Umeda about 60 min OCAT about 50 min Kyoto about 85–90 min |
| Taxi | Hotel door | Osaka city about 50 min Kyoto Station about 100 min |
A pre-booked transfer, like a taxi, goes from the airport straight to your hotel door; the difference is that your group, luggage and hotel are agreed in advance. With older parents, kids, lots of luggage or a late flight, see the transfer options below.
Staying in Namba or Shinsaibashi: what should you take?
Nankai runs direct from Kansai Airport to Nankai Namba Station, and HARUKA does not stop at Namba, so Nankai is the least hassle here. Nankai has several ticket types; the price difference is whether you ride a limited express:
| Ticket | Fare |
|---|---|
| Airport Express (no limited express ticket) |
Adult 970 yen |
| Rapi:t Regular seat (fare + limited express ticket) |
Adult 1,670 yen |
| Kanku Toku-wari Rapi:t ticket |
Adult 1,560 yen Child 780 yen |
| Rapi:t Digital Ticket | Adult 1,410 yen Child 710 yen |
Regular seats shown. Super Seat: Kanku Toku-wari adult 1,740 yen, child 980 yen; Digital Ticket adult 1,590 yen, child 910 yen. Nankai's child fare covers ages 6–11; preschoolers usually ride free but pay the child fare on all-reserved limited expresses.
Rapi:t is all reserved seats, has space for large luggage, and runs about every half hour during the day. The limited express charge is 700 yen, or 550 yen through Nankai's ticketless service, and buying on board costs 300 yen more. The Digital Ticket is bought on your phone for a set train and seat, is valid only on the chosen date, and cannot be bought for children alone.
The Airport Express runs more often and is about ten minutes slower than Rapi:t, saving 700 yen per person. Traveling light, the Airport Express is plenty; with big suitcases and a guaranteed seat in mind, Rapi:t is the safer choice.
For Shinsaibashi, change at Nankai Namba to the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line and ride one stop toward Umeda. The Limousine Bus to Shinsaibashi (Hotel Nikko Osaka) leaves the airport only twice a day (Terminal 1 at 15:45 and 18:55). If your hotel is near Namba OCAT, the Limousine Bus costs 1,400 yen for adults and takes about 50 minutes; the first bus from Terminal 1 is 6:10, the next is 8:55, then about every half hour, with no reservation needed.
Staying in Umeda or near Osaka Station: what should you take?
There are three direct options to Umeda: HARUKA is fastest, the Limousine Bus is easiest with luggage, and the Kanku Rapid is cheapest.
| Option | Time | Adult one way |
|---|---|---|
| HARUKA | About 45–47 min | Discount one-way ticket 1,900 yen Regular reserved seat 2,910 yen |
| Limousine Bus Osaka Station Line |
About 60 min | 1,800 yen Round trip 3,300 yen (valid 14 days) |
| Kanku Rapid | About 69–71 min | 1,180 yen |
The HARUKA discount one-way ticket is 950 yen for children, and the price depends on the purchase date, not the travel date. It is for holders of a passport issued by a government outside Japan entering on "short-term stay"; Japanese nationals cannot use it, and you show your passport when collecting it. It is sold through overseas travel agencies or JR West's online booking, not inside Japan, and if you get off partway the rest of the ticket is void.
At Osaka Station, HARUKA stops at the Umekita underground platform, with the Umekita Underground Exit and the West Exit; an underground passage inside the gates has elevators and escalators. When booking, check which exit your hotel is near so you don't take the long way with your bags.
The Limousine Bus cannot be reserved; it is first come, first served, and if it is full you wait for the next one. The first bus from Terminal 1 is 6:50. Buses leaving Terminal 1 between 8:45 and 19:30 skip Hankyu Sanbangai and stop at Hotel Hankyu Respire Osaka (Yodobashi Umeda Tower) instead, and most also stop at Herbis Osaka; luggage goes in the hold, up to 2 bags per person. From Terminal 2, check the timetable, as many morning buses start only from Terminal 1.
The Kanku Rapid needs no limited express ticket, just a regular fare, but it makes more stops, so it takes over twenty minutes longer than HARUKA. Some evening trains only go as far as Tennoji (the 22:50, for example), so check the destination before boarding if you need Osaka Station.
Staying in Kyoto: how do you get there?
If your first night is in Kyoto, HARUKA and the Limousine Bus both run direct, about ten minutes apart, so the choice comes down to luggage and where your hotel is.
| Option | Time | Adult one way |
|---|---|---|
| HARUKA direct | About 78 min | Discount one-way ticket 2,700 yen Regular reserved seat 3,590 yen |
| Limousine Bus | About 85–90 min | 2,800 yen Round trip 5,100 yen (valid 14 days) |
| HARUKA + Shinkansen | About 75 min | 5,880 yen |
HARUKA runs direct about every half hour. Changing to the Shinkansen at Shin-Osaka saves only 3 minutes, and the discount ticket cannot be used on the Shinkansen, so stay on the direct train. The Limousine Bus goes to the Hachijo Exit of Kyoto Station with luggage in the hold. Buses from the airport to Kyoto need no reservation, but every bus from Kyoto to the airport must be reserved; booking opens on the same date one month before travel, so book your return early.
Landing late: when do the last trains and buses leave?
These are departure times from the airport, not landing times, and immigration plus baggage claim often takes a while.
| Destination | Option | Last departure | Arrives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Namba | Nankai Airport Express | 23:55 | 0:39 |
| Namba | Nankai Rapi:t | Weekdays 23:00 Weekends/holidays 22:55 |
23:34 23:30 |
| Namba OCAT | Limousine Bus | T2 21:12 T1 21:25 |
22:15 |
| Osaka Station | HARUKA | 22:16 | 23:03 |
| Osaka Station | Kanku Rapid | 23:09 | 0:15 |
| Umeda | Limousine Bus | T2 23:32 T1 23:45 |
Hankyu Sanbangai 0:43 |
| Umeda | Limousine late-night bus | T2 0:02 T1 0:15 |
Hankyu Sanbangai 1:13 |
| Kyoto | HARUKA | 22:16 | 23:32 |
| Kyoto | Limousine Bus | T2 23:07 T1 23:20 |
Hachijo Exit 0:45 |
Based on the November 2026 timetable.
The JR trains after 23:09, at 23:24 and 23:43, only go as far as Hineno and do not reach central Osaka. The late-night bus is 2,700 yen for adults and 1,350 yen for children, cashless only; regular 1,800-yen tickets are not valid, it does not stop at Herbis Osaka, and no extra buses run when it is full.
If you land after 23:30, these are the only public transport options left, and it also depends on how fast immigration goes. At that point, a pre-booked transfer means no counting down to the last train while you queue; if you arrive late at night, also check with your hotel what time the front desk closes.
How much is a taxi, and what if you have lots of luggage?
Kansai Airport's fixed airport taxi fares ended on 31 May 2024. Taxis from the rank on Terminal 1, 1st floor, now run on the meter. Estimated fares from the airport are below, per car:
| Destination | Time | Estimated fare (incl. tolls) |
|---|---|---|
| Chuo Ward (Namba, Shinsaibashi area) |
About 50 min | 23,320 yen |
| Kita Ward (Umeda area) |
About 50 min | 24,400 yen |
| Shin-Osaka Station | About 60 min | 25,480 yen |
| Tennoji Station | About 50 min | 21,970 yen |
| JR Kyoto Station | About 100 min | 43,150 yen |
Estimates including bridge and expressway tolls; the actual fare follows the meter. The fare is 20% higher from 22:00 to 5:00.
Count your bags too. The Limousine Bus hold takes up to 2 bags per person, 30 kg in total, with each bag's three sides adding up to no more than 2 meters; soft bags that cannot stand on their own are restricted in the hold. For a family with a stroller and big suitcases, a pre-booked transfer that takes everyone and everything to the hotel in one car is the easiest option.
Landing at Terminal 2 adds one more leg: the railway station connects to Terminal 1 and the Aeroplaza, so from Terminal 2 you take the free shuttle, about 7–9 minutes. With a family and luggage, factor in that time and effort; if you'd rather agree on your group, luggage and hotel beforehand, a pre-booked transfer is less stressful than queuing for a taxi.
How do you book a transfer?
Lanytrip's Kansai transfers cover Kansai Airport ⇄ Osaka city, Kansai Airport ⇄ Kyoto city and Itami Airport ⇄ Osaka city, using vehicles such as the Alphard or HiAce, straight from the airport to your hotel door. Below are 3 common setups; just tell us your group, luggage and flight times on LINE.
- Kansai Airport → Osaka city hotel (Namba, Umeda, etc.): Good for travelers with older parents or kids, more than the bus's 2 bags per person, or a late flight and no wish to race the last train. Your luggage is heaviest on the way home, so you can book Osaka hotel → Kansai Airport at the same time.
- Kansai Airport → Kyoto city hotel: Good for families spending the first night in Kyoto at a hotel away from Kyoto Station who don't want to haul luggage to the hotel after the HARUKA. Every Limousine Bus from Kyoto to the airport needs a reservation, so you can book the return transfer at the same time.
- Itami Airport → Osaka city hotel: Good for travelers flying into Itami on a domestic flight who want to go straight to their Osaka hotel. The return works the same way: Osaka hotel → Itami Airport can be arranged together.

Which area are you staying in, and which route fits?
| Area | Easiest option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Namba, Shinsaibashi | Pre-booked transfer, or Nankai Rapi:t |
Direct to Namba Shinsaibashi is one stop on the Midosuji Line |
| Umeda, Osaka Station | Pre-booked transfer, or the Limousine Bus |
No change the bus means less luggage hauling |
| Shin-Osaka | Pre-booked transfer, or HARUKA |
Direct in about 50 min Kanku Rapid needs a change at Osaka |
| Tennoji | Pre-booked transfer, or HARUKA |
HARUKA about 32 min about 20 min faster than the Kanku Rapid |
| Kyoto | Pre-booked transfer, or HARUKA |
Direct to Kyoto Station |
| Hotel far from a station lots of luggage |
Pre-booked transfer | Straight to the hotel door |
For every area, the smoothest way is a pre-booked transfer, which goes to hotels in Osaka city and Kyoto city straight from the airport; if you take public transport, pick one from the table. For Tennoji, the Limousine Bus route to Abeno Harukas is currently suspended, so a pre-booked transfer or HARUKA is easiest.
Summary: what to watch for and how to plan the trip from Kansai Airport to Osaka
Things to watch for
The HARUKA discount ticket must be bought outside Japan, priced by purchase date; the Limousine Bus takes up to 2 bags per person, and every Kyoto-to-airport Limousine Bus must be reserved. JR trains after 23:09 only go to Hineno, and after midnight the only bus to Umeda is the cashless late-night Limousine Bus.
How to plan the trip
After landing, take Nankai to Namba, HARUKA or the Limousine Bus to Umeda, and HARUKA direct to Kyoto. If your flight lands after 23:30, book a transfer straight to the hotel; reserve the Kyoto Limousine Bus for your return early, or book a hotel-to-airport transfer.
Why we suggest a pre-booked transfer
The tiring part of getting from Kansai Airport into town is changing trains with luggage, the extra shuttle from Terminal 2 and racing the last train at night. A pre-booked transfer goes from the airport straight to your hotel door, so the whole family rides together and the bags stay in the car. See the transfer options above, or message us on LINE.
Kansai Airport to Osaka FAQ
What is the fastest way from Kansai Airport to Namba?+
Nankai Rapi:t, as little as 34 minutes; the Airport Express takes about 45 minutes. HARUKA does not stop at Namba.
Kansai Airport to Umeda: HARUKA or the Limousine Bus?+
HARUKA takes about 45–47 minutes, 1,900 yen with the discount one-way ticket; the bus takes about 60 minutes for 1,800 yen, with luggage in the hold so you carry it less. Choose by which stop is closer to your hotel.
Who can buy the HARUKA discount one-way ticket?+
Travelers with a foreign passport entering on short-term stay; it cannot be bought inside Japan. The price depends on the purchase date, not the travel date.
Do I need to reserve an oversized-luggage seat on HARUKA?+
The rule requiring a reservation for bags over 160 cm in total dimensions applies only to the Tokaido, Sanyo, Kyushu and Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen; HARUKA is a conventional line, so it does not apply. Keep it in mind if you change to the Shinkansen at Shin-Osaka.
